Nigerian, Ghanaian Officials Hold Talks to End Diplomatic Row

The two countries began talks to cement cracks in their bilateral relations owing to the diplomatic standoff between them arising from the alleged maltreatment of Nigerians in Ghana. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has called on Ghana to revisit the U.S.$1 million mandatory business capital for Nigerians and other nationals as a requirement for doing business.

This follows months of clashes between Nigerian and Ghanaian traders. The affected Nigerian businesses were said to be violating a Ghanaian law, barring non-nationals from operating in the domestic retail space.
